This book was written to challenge the habit of reacting to the world without first understanding ourselves. Drawing on lived experience in public service, it examines how leadership is shaped not only by external pressures, but by the internal dialogue that often goes unheard.

Rather than focusing on political positions or outcomes, the book centers on the human experience behind them. It explores how identity, responsibility, and personal conviction intersect, and how leaders navigate the tension between service and self. It offers a grounded perspective on staying aligned in uncertain environments, encouraging reflection, composure, and intentional action.

About Author

Maleeha Shahid is a Regional Councillor, former Deputy Mayor of Whitby (2023), and leadership coach with over 18 years of experience in real estate, community advocacy, and public service. She made history as the first woman of an ethnic background elected to Whitby Town Council and continues to champion inclusive growth, equity, and community wellbeing. A Harvard Certified Executive Coach and graduate of Western University’s Local Government Program, Maleeha brings both academic insight and lived experience to her work. She is the author of Contradictions of Passion and Politics, in which explores leadership, identity, and integrity in a complex and changing world.
